Avoid the Spiral of Shame
Hi, Beautiful! I’ve been doing a ton of coaching yesterday, and a little bit this morning, and it’s all pretty much been around the same thing
A lot of you are really beating yourself up over what you ate on Thanksgiving Day.
OK, so that one piece of pie that you were going to have turned into two and maybe you weren’t going to have a scoop of potatoes, but that turned into a BIG bowl of potatoes
Then what happens is we start going down this Spiral of Shame. We start beating ourselves up for it. Saying things like: I should know better. I never eat off plan. I just can’t do this. I’ll never lose weight.
And you just kind of give up, and then start eating like crazy Right?? Well that’s because of self judgment and judging ourselves like this is a recipe for disaster.
We put on that shame blanket and we wear it around, and we feel SO bad that we made bad decisions. But this is not going to get us to our goal.
I promise you one meal or one day of eating off plan is NOT going to keep you from your goal as much as if you let that turn into two or three days or even a month of eating off plan!
So I think the key here is that we are human, and things don’t always go as planned. And we need to recognize that and move on. Keep moving forward!
This happened to me a lot. And one of the things that my coach told me that made such great sense to me was this Let’s say we’re going on a road trip, and we make a wrong turn.
Well, we have two choices: 1) we can keep driving in the wrong direction, OR 2) we can turn around and get back on track. Makes total sense right?
So the same thing happens with our choices with food!
We made a wrong turn. So we can either keep going down this Spiral of Shame and we can keep doing it the whole month of December.
OR we can just say: You know what, I’m turning it around I’m heading back!
So let’s give ourselves grace, we’re human, and let’s just get back on track!
Need help getting back on track? Let’s talk about it in our coaching call! Schedule with me HERE.
